Typically, installing a smaller water feature such as an outdoor water fountain or waterfall does not require a building permit. However, it’s always a good idea to check with local guidelines before beginning any type of project. Some areas also have water usage restrictions depending on climate. Usually, fountains with re-circulating pumps are approved for use even during times of drought. These too can vary by location, so be sure to check with your local ordinances if a drought is affecting your area.
