Water Features FAQs

Have questions? This is a short list of our most frequently asked questions about waterfalls and outdoor fountains. For more information, please call 877-728-3778.

  • Water features add value by increasing tranquility and helping to create a relaxing environment outdoors. In addition to creating an eye-catching focal point, a water fountain or waterfall can create subtle white noise that blocks out background sounds such as traffic and neighbors.

When thoughtfully incorporated alongside interlocking paversdriveway paverswalkway pavers, or lush landscaping design, water features can elevate the aesthetics of your home and potentially boost property value.

  • Yes. All custom System Pavers water features contain filters to keep the water looking clean and clear.

  • Your water fountain or waterfall uses a pump to function. Although they are durable and designed to function without a lot of upkeep, you will need to perform basic maintenance to ensure it's operating well.

Because fountain pumps are designed to run while underwater, keep an eye on your fountain's water level to be sure it's always fully submerged. If it begins to get louder, this usually means the water level has dropped too low due to factors such as evaporation.

You also may need to clean your pump occasionally to remove debris such as fallen leaves and twigs. We recommend cleaning your fountain a few times a year to thoroughly remove algae and debris. Using chemical cleaners on your fountain is NOT recommended as it could damage it or harm wildlife such as birds who drink from it.

  • This will depend on your location and what your winters are usually like. If you live in an area that has freezing spells, you may want to winterize your fountain. It's important to completely drain the water from the basin and pipes so they don't freeze and expand.

If you have the space, you can dismantle it and store it in a garage or indoors for the ultimate in protection. Otherwise a fountain cover will go far in protecting it from snow, ice, and damage. Our experts can help you decide if your location warrants winterizing your fountain or if you're better off keeping it going all year round.

  • Our design team creates a wide range of backyard water features to match your design sensibilities and space. From modern wall fountains to pondless waterfalls, koi ponds, and natural rock streams, we offer a range of patio water features that are customized to your yard’s layout and your lifestyle.

We can even design features that integrate seamlessly with outdoor lighting for a dramatic nighttime glow, creating a gorgeous focal point for gatherings and quiet evenings alike. Whether your goal is elegance or serenity, we’ll bring your vision to life.

  • Yes. Every System Pavers water feature is built with sustainability in mind. Our designs use energy-efficient pumps and recirculating systems that minimize water use while maximizing beauty.

Because the same water is filtered and reused, your fountain or waterfall operates efficiently with little waste. Paired with materials such as stone, sustainably-made composite decking, or pool deck pavers, our water features can deliver a timeless look with a sustainable design.

  • Absolutely. Whether your space already features fire pit areas, outdoor fireplaces, stone patios, or a pergola, our team can seamlessly integrate a new water feature into your existing layout.

We specialize in matching your current materials and patterns so the addition feels intentional and cohesive. Adding a fountain or waterfall to an established design can refresh your entire backyard without requiring a full remodel, enhancing the mood, flow, and overall enjoyment of your outdoor space.

  • Yes, but in ways that add charm rather than hassle. Flowing water naturally attracts birds, butterflies, and other gentle wildlife, adding liveliness to your backyard ecosystem.

Because our outdoor water features circulate water continuously, they prevent stagnant pools where mosquitoes might breed. Regularly cleaning your backyard water features keeps everything fresh, so you can relax and enjoy your outdoor area without worrying about pests.

  • Most water feature installations take just a few days, but it ultimately depends on the size and complexity of the design. Simpler fountains may be completed quickly, while larger multi-tiered waterfalls take additional time for stonework, plumbing, and landscaping.

If you’re adding surrounding features like seating walls or backyard entertaining zones, your project may extend slightly—but our expert crews handle everything from start to finish. We’ll provide a clear timeline so you know exactly when your new retreat will be ready to enjoy.

  • Getting started is simple! Schedule a free design consultation with System Pavers to explore outdoor water features that perfectly complement your space and lifestyle. Our expert designers will help you plan the ideal combination of shapes, materials, and sound levels, along with thoughtful extras such as landscape lighting or seating.

Whether you’re envisioning a peaceful fountain or a dramatic cascading waterfall, we’ll help you reclaim your summer and make the most of every season with a custom outdoor oasis that’s both beautiful and built to last.
