Make a Difference Day Is Saturday, October 25th

Published Date: Oct 22, 2014

“Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count.” ~ Stella McCartney Tomorrow millions of volunteers across the United States will come together serving a common purpose of improving the lives of others in their community. "Make a Difference Day" was created back in 1992 by the Gannett publication, USA WEEKEND magazine. “Make a Difference Day” in collaboration with Points of Light, is an annual community service event held on the fourth Saturday of October. It is a day to celebrate the power of people working together to make a difference in the lives of others. Over the years, volunteers across the country have organized or joined service projects created by those in their community. System Pavers had the opportunity to make a difference with a project put together by the Elk Grove Community Garden and Learning Center (EGCG) in Elk Grove, CA. The EGCG is an organization that invests in their local community by teaching families how to be successful in the garden. They regularly host workshops and classes for families to attend and provide gardening plots to local residents wanting to grow their own fruits and vegetables. They understand that many people wish they could grow their own fruits and vegetables but may not have the location or know-how to do so. Earlier in October, Elk Grove Community Garden and Learning Center celebrated their 10 year anniversary with the unveiling of a new paving stone patio donated by System Pavers in Sacramento. EGCG’s new paving stone patio addition will provide a play area for the children’s garden. They hope to see the garden continue to grow with the support of the neighbors and the local community and they are definitely making a difference! With so many opportunities to help “Make a Difference” in the world, we hope that many will go out tomorrow and improve the lives of others by volunteering. It is amazing how large tasks can become small when divided by many people and there are many ways to “Make a Difference” in your community. Visit the “Make a Difference” website to find local volunteer opportunities for your family to participate in this weekend. Make A Difference Day Website
