February 4th is a Big Day
By: Sam the Cooking Guy
Of course we all know the most famous day in February would be the 14th, aka Valentine’s Day. But did you know that a full 10 days before the day for lovers, is another important day? Certainly not as well known, but to me – it’s no less important. I’m talking of course, about Homemade Soup Day.
This once a-year homage to that most delicious item celebrates, in this case something that comes out of your ingenuity rather than out of a can. And it reminds us (or should) that one of the great joys in life is a pot of soup on the stove. It matters little whether it’s chicken soup…lentil & split pea or a thick beer/cheddar – the comfort factor of a soup on the stove (not to mention the smell) is off the charts. So I urge you to get up off of the couch, gather a few ingredients, grab a ladle and make something good.
But Sam, where do I start? That’s easy – here are a couple simple ones to start with.
