Lazy summer Sundays often conjure up images of lounging on a backyard patio, floating atop a sparkling blue pool, or watching Dad cook up some of his magic on the island BBQ. But on Father’s day maybe the perfect gift is to let Dad do the watching and lounging while you rustle up a meal on the grill that is as unique as it is tasty. Creating a great grilling experience starts with a quality gas grill that is easy to start, use, and clean up. If you find yourself a novice who doesn't want "dear old dad" to discover you’re a rookie in the grilling department, we have a great recipe that is sure to win over his heart (remember the saying that the way to man’s heart is through his stomach). Make this easy on yourself and trust the experts like the Neely’s from the Food Network. Their recipe is not only easy but fast – total time including prep and cooking is only 30 minutes – just in case Dad can’t resist the temptation to look over your shoulder and give advice. Swiss and Mushroom BBQ Burger Recipe courtesy of Patrick and Gina Neely Total Time: 30 min Prep: 15 min Cook: 15 min Yield: 6 servings Level: Easy Ingredients: Mushroom Topping: 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 shallot, finely chopped 1 pound button mushrooms, sliced 1/2 cup Neelys BBQ Sauce Burgers: 2 1/2 pounds ground beef 1/4 red onion, finely chopped 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped Dash Worcestershire sauce Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper 6 slices Swiss cheese 6 hamburger buns, toasted Directions: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the shallot and mushrooms saute until softened and browned, 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in the BBQ sauce and stir, while cooking, for 1 to 2 minutes more. In a large mixing bowl, break up the meat with your hands. Add the chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper. Mix until thoroughly incorporated. Divide the meat into 6 equal balls. Flatten them into patties and use your thumb to create an indent in the center of each burger. Grill the burgers, uncovered, for 4 minutes on the first side. Flip and continue cooking for another 4 minutes for medium. Remove the burger from the grill, place in buns, and immediately top with the Swiss cheese and the hot BBQ mushrooms. Cook's Note: The indent in the burger will prevent the burgers from puffing up while you grill them. Once you have a grill station set up to meet your needs, the gourmet possibilities you can produce are endless.
