The outdoor pizza party is a great way to bring your pals together while getting creative in the kitchen (outdoors of course!) Everyone loves traditional pizza, but how about switching it up a bit and bringing something new to the table - fried pizza. This Italian delicacy is a traditional Neapolitan-style fried pizza. The ingredients are similar to a normal pizza however, instead of baking the dough in the oven, it's fried. By frying the dough, it lends the pizza a crisp and chewy texture that is phenomenal. So break out the flour and whip out the rolling pin, it's pizza time! Ingredients 2 tbsp. olive oil 6 cloves of garlic, minced Pinch of red pepper flakes Handful of fresh torn basil 1 28oz can of crushed tomatoes 1 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. honey 1lb. of store bought pizza dough at room temperature (or your favorite pizza dough recipe). 1-2 tbsp. flour for dusting Toppings 8oz. fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced 16 fresh basil leaves Directions Heat outdoor pizza oven to 400 degrees. In saucepan, heat olive oil over medium to low heat. Add garlic, red pepper flake and basil. Saute until garlic is golden brown and fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, salt and honey. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, heat skillet with 4 tbsp. of olive oil on medium heat. Lightly flour surface and shape dough into a round. Cut into 4 equal size pieces. With floured hands, stretch or roll out dough into 8 inch rounds. One at a time, fry pizza dough until bottom turns a golden brown. After a minute flip pizza with utensil and continue to cook for about 1 minute. Transfer dough to platter lined with paper towels to absorb the excess oil. Note: Fried pizza dough can be fried a head of time up to a day in advance. On each fried dough round, top with 1 tbsp of sauce, fresh sliced mozzarella cheese and 4 basil leaves. Transfer pizzas to outdoor pizza oven and bake until cheese is bubbly and melted - about 8-10 minutes.
