Gaining Calm from Stones

Gaining Calm from Stones

Nov 11 2014

Nature gives us much to be grateful for as we enter this season of thankfulness. One of the most awe-inspiring creations in this great world of ours is something we likely take for granted, daily: stone. We walk on it in our homes and places of business, on stone walkways throughout yards and parks we pave over it for roads, and we fly over miles and miles of it in our rocky mountains. And many of us spend long days hiking over it worldwide so we can view our earth’s sky-scraping peaks or menacing boulders as canyon walls, majestically watching over rivers, water falls, and lake shores or multi-colored rocks artistically scattered throughout our red deserts and landscapes. Beyond providing us with grandeur and natural beauty, stone provides us with spiritual energy for our minds and souls. For example, some believe that black obsidian has metaphysical properties that can protect us from negativity, and help release any disharmony in our lives such as resentment, anger or fear that may be building up inside us. Another stone, Lapis Lazuli, is world-renowned as a symbol of honor, vision, truth and wisdom. When you add elements of stone to your home’s interior and outdoor living spaces, through stone walkways or other features, you not only add beauty and durable functionality, but elements of nature to help ground your spirit in positive energy. A couple of examples: Stone walkways: Grey, taupe, red or burgundy, natural stone walkways create a sense of calm in any setting. For example, the warmth we feel when our feet touch a sun-warmed surface, or the tranquil feeling we unconsciously experience when surrounded by the colors of earth. With the many textures and colors to choose from, we can install stone walkways that reflect the element of nature we enjoy the most: rugged granite canyon walls to prairie plateaus to smooth red sandstones. Outdoor Elements: Inside we enjoy clean stainless steel or shiny black enamel surfaces on our stove tops, but outside, we get more satisfaction from cooking surfaces that reflect nature. Stone cooking stations encasing BBQ grills and cook tops help to give us a sense of being part of nature even if we are just steps outside of our backdoor. Regardless of the type of stone that soothes your mind and soul after a long day at work or just stressful times, you can find the perfect reflection of nature in today’s many choices of interlocking paving stones. Not only do they make for great stone walkways and living surfaces, they are much more affordable than quarried stone and have the same lifelong durability.
