Outdoor Games that Everyone Can Play!
Your backyard space is your instant getaway, carefully cultivated as a spot where you and your family can relax and while away the hours. But don’t forget that your backyard should also be a place where you can have fun! Whether you opt for a classic like horseshoes or croquet or come up with your own outdoor game alternatives. There are plenty of lawn games to play together as a family on your SP Turf. Here are some of our favorites to get you started on your outdoor adventures.
A Bocce ball set includes 8 large balls and 1 small target ball. Two players or two teams play. Generally, a bocce court measures 10-13 feet wide and 76-100 feet long. The object of the game is to roll the bocce ball closer to the target ball than your opponent. For official Bocce rules visit: www.bocce.com
Create your own obstacles and ramps on your existing SP Putting Green or create your own course with a sieways cup. Use recycled cylinders like cans or soda bottles and ramps made of cardboard pieces. Set your own par and mix up the course once you’ve made the hole.
Fill 2-liter plastic bottles with water or sand. Adjust the weight of the bottles; the heavier the more challenging. Use a rubber playground ball as the bowling ball. Make the “lane” as short or long as needed based on the age and ability of the players.
There are plenty of modern re-imaginings of these great classic games available as well, such as disc golf, and safe dart games.
Your outdoor space can also be a great place to play pretend and to let kids embrace their imaginations. Don’t hesitate to break out some of your favorite outdoor games for any occasion! Those long hours in the summer sun are the perfect time to begin teaching younger family members about all the games that you used to play during recess in your own schoolyard days. The best part? These games have been passed down for generations, a factor that makes them perfect for every member of the family.
