This is a guest post by our friends at The California Wine Club. For more than 25 years, they have been traveling the dusty back roads of wine country, seeking out tiny artisan wineries and selecting their best-handcrafted wines to share with wine lovers all across the country. Great food paired with great wine enjoyed in your own beautiful outdoor space is one of life's best simple pleasures.
Are you ready for some football? If you are gathering the gang to watch the game, don't miss the chance to serve some great food and wine combos. Your friends will love them!
Get the party started with chips and salsa paired with Champagne or sparkling wine. Sparkling wine is amazingly food friendly, and even works with Seven-Layer dip. You could also serve a lovely Dry Rosé or, if you are looking for a bit of tannin to stand up to rich, creamy dips, try a Sangiovese. Hummus and buttery popcorn both love Chardonnay.
Serving hot wings? Try a Riesling or Gewürztraminer. The slight sweetness will help cool the heat. Both of these wines are great choices with hot and spicy fare.
Zinfandel (the red, not the white) is a great pick to go with Chili, chili dogs, or chili burgers. And it is the ultimate match for Pepperoni Pizza. The spicy/fruitiness of the wine makes delivery pizza taste special.
If you are grilling BBQ pork ribs, reach for a Syrah/Shiraz. The deep berry flavors bring out the best in BBQ sauce. And Roast Beef sliders call for a Pinot Noir.
If you are ending things on a sweet note, brownies and Merlot are a natural match.
We hope these pairing suggestions inspire you to try some new wine and food combinations while cheering on your favorite team.
