Project Highlight: Pam and Denny's Outdoor Oasis

Jan 05 2017

Pam and Denny love the views their backyard provides them and have always enjoyed hosting family and friends both indoors and outdoors. But after years of mowing, dethatching and constantly taking care of their spacious backyard’s lawn, the county enacted a water conservation ordinance that drastically limited their outdoor water usage. They made the decision to let the grass die out, which led to a dust covered backyard. According to Denny, the backyard had been unusable for far too long.

Knowing they weren’t willing to sacrifice their time outdoors, Pam and Denny needed a permanent fix for their home’s future. They reached out to System Pavers for this new project after receiving a mailer showcasing the wide variety of outdoor elements that met their needs. They trusted us to install a new paver driveway many years back, so we were thrilled with the opportunity to help with their backyard makeover.

Envisioning a sanctuary to retreat to after a long day’s work, Pam and Denny knew they wanted a backyard design that included a full living set-up. More importantly, they wanted to bring the inside of their home to the backyard. In addition, they needed the design to be low maintenance, reduce water usage, create more shade for the backyard and eliminate the dust issue around the barbecue.

Once Pam and Denny’s designer saw their space and heard their list of needs, she helped to create the ultimate outdoor retreat set-up. The design included a large pergola over a full outdoor kitchen equipped with a built in barbecue grill, double burners, mini fridge, sink with beverage center and electrical hookups, a full paver patio, a dual LED lit water feature, a custom built-in fireplace, LED outdoor lighting, upgraded artificial turf and a sitting wall that extended the entire length of the yard. Pam and Denny immediately loved the design and were all in on starting the installation.

Pam and Denny appreciated the open line of communication that was kept with them throughout the installation, and having their requests accommodated as they came up. “We thought it was very helpful that System Pavers informed us that construction isn’t always seamless but that they’d be there every step of the way, which they were,” Denny says.

Pam is happy to share that they now have the outdoor retreat of their dreams. “The pavers are giving us use of all the square footage we couldn’t utilize before and we now have a fully usable space that’s very low maintenance. We spend a lot of time relaxing after work. It’s so peaceful,” she adds.

Denny is thrilled that they can now do everything outside that they would normally do inside. He enjoys cooking for his family and friends. The backyard is now not only an outdoor living space, but it has the feel of three distinct outdoor rooms that are perfect for entertaining. His favorite time to be outside is to watch either the new moon or full moon by the fireplace with Pam.
